As BCLS has grown, we have worked to develop a surplus to enable us to provide additional life support training, targeting those at highest risk.
Our first programme was developed in the early 1990’s, when we worked with the City of London Police to provide them with mobile defibrillators and trained the officers in their use. At the time London Ambulance service had an average response time of >10mins and the City of London Police were always first on the scene of a “collapse”.
More recently the “Tower Hamlets Emergency Life Skills project” involved BCLS trainers training a team of Bengali volunteer instructors to deliver basic life support courses to community groups in East London. This was highly successful in reaching the Bengali community in Tower Hamlets, who would have been very unlikely to have received training otherwise.
Our “Healthy Island” project developed links with schools in the Isle of Dogs to provide free training in Life support in order to assist and positively influence the adults in their community.
Currently we are running “The Patients’ project” where we provide free training to cardiac rehabilitation patients and their families from the Royal London Hospital and the London Chest Hospital.
As a charity we rely heavily on donations to enable us to continue our work within the community of London. Please consider making a donation to allow us to continue this vital work.
